Dr Paula Carey

Dr Paula Carey is the Chief Scientific Officer and one of the founding directors of Carbon8 Systems. Having worked on accelerated carbonation technology for over 20 years, she has an international reputation as an expert on carbonation and mineralisation. Until 2010, she was an academic, at the University of Greenwich before leaving to take over as managing director of the University spin-out. Paula has a PhD in Geology and taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level for more than 25 years, concentrating on engineering geology and geomaterials.

Since jumping ship into the commercial world, Paula has successfully commercialised accelerated carbonation, with three plants operating in the UK under licence since 2012.  Carbon8 has developed a containerised system, currently deployed at a cement plant in France, using CO2 directly from flue gas and permanently capturing it in products for the construction industry.
